As of Thursday, December 4, 2025, the Town of Amherst has activated daytime warming centers for anyone who needs a safe, heated indoor space during the winter season. These centers operate during each building’s normal public hours.
Locations include: Bangs Community Center (70 Boltwood Walk, Monday–Friday); Jones Library temporary location (101 University Drive, Monday–Sunday); Munson Memorial Library (1046 South East Street, Monday–Thursday and Saturday); North Amherst Library (8 Montague Road, Monday–Wednesday, Friday–Saturday); Town Hall; the Police Department lobby, which is open 24 hours a day for limited overnight warming; and Craig’s Doors, which provides after-hours support and connections to shelter.
If a heating system fails during extreme cold and a landlord does not respond, residents can contact Amherst Inspections Services at 413-259-3030 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Outside these hours, call the Police Department’s business line at 413-259-3000.
