The Amherst Historical Society’s History Bites series continues this Friday, October 24, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Bangs Center, 70 Boltwood Walk, Amherst, MA. Bonnie Isman will present a lecture on the worldwide eclipse expeditions of Mabel Loomis Todd, Professor David Todd, and their daughter Millicent.
The talk will highlight diaries, newspaper accounts, photographs, and writings that document seven international trips the Todds made between 1887 and 1914 to observe and photograph solar eclipses. Their travels inspired Mabel’s astronomy publications and influenced Millicent’s later scientific work at Harvard.
All presentations are free and open to the public.
