The UMass Amherst Drumline in action at a recent event.
Drumline performances are a cherished tradition at UMass Amherst, often seen during football games and campus events. Bringing dynamic energy and precision, the drumline plays a crucial role in setting the atmosphere and rallying the crowd.
Amherst’s annual block party filled downtown with music, food, and community spirit last week, drawing an estimated 1,000 people.
The evening kicked off just after 5:30 p.m. with an introduction of the UMass basketball teams, followed by the thunder of the UMass drum line and routines from the cheerleaders.
Local restaurants lined the streets with food stalls, while two stages featured performances throughout the night.
Families gathered at the rock climbing wall sponsored by the Amherst Area Chamber of Commerce, one of several new additions to this year’s festivities.
Community groups and businesses were out in force. The Amherst Fire Department, local banks, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Amherst Players all hosted tables, reminding residents that the event is as much about connection as celebration.
Now a yearly tradition, the block party continues to be one of Amherst’s most loved gatherings, welcoming students back to the town for the fall semester and marking the start of pumpkin spice season with food, fun, and plenty of hometown pride.
