Workers at Mount Holyoke College hold up signs and urge drivers to honk as they stage a strike a day before classes start.
Dining, facility, and housekeeping staff began striking early on September 2, 2025, citing the need for livable wages and establishment of a legal fund. Picketing started at 5:30 a.m., followed by a press conference and rally.
The college is negotiating with unions SEIU 32BJ and UAW Local 2322, and talks are ongoing. Workers may extend the strike if no progress is made by day’s end.
The workers said that they cannot make ends meet with the current wages and need to be able to put food on the table.
The Mount Holyoke fall 2025 semester is scheduled to kick off tomorrow, September 3, 2025. Most students are already on campus, and campus move-in was last Friday, August 29th.
