The Royal Chicken Breakfast at Masuda’s Cafe in downtown Amherst.
This hearty plate includes a juicy grilled chicken kebab, two fried eggs, crispy masala-spiced home fries, a garden salad, and toast. It’s one of the signature items on Masuda’s unique menu.
It’s a lot of food, and I had to take some home with me.
Masuda’s Cafe is located at 17 Kellogg Avenue in downtown Amherst. It opened in June 2025 and quickly became a local favorite for its South Asian–influenced breakfast and lunch dishes, including vegan and gluten-free options.
The masala home fries are a standout: potatoes seasoned with a mix of warm spices, offering a flavorful twist on the classic diner side. The chicken kebab, marinated and grilled until tender, adds more protein – and more flavor to the meal (depending on what you want to focus on).
Masuda’s is open Tuesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on Mondays. It’s a cozy spot for students, workers, and neighbors to gather over coffee or a filling breakfast. You can find their full menu on their website.
I took a friend who was visiting Amherst from upstate New York, and his opinion was that this was a meal to come back to Amherst for.
