Guided Walk at Silvio Conte Fish and Wildlife Refuge
A Spring Nature Walk will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at the Fort River Trail within the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.
The walk will follow the accessible 1.1-mile Silvio O. Conte Trail loop, which features a variety of ecosystems, including wetlands, wooded areas, and open spaces. The trail includes boardwalk and packed gravel surfaces, with mostly level terrain, several moderate inclines, and benches available along the route.
The event is open to community members interested in nature, local ecology, and outdoor recreation. Registration is not required.
Presenter Information
The walk will be led by Elizabeth Vierling, a naturalist and retired distinguished professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Vierling continues to lead research focused on how plants respond to environmental conditions at the molecular and cellular levels.
