The Fort River Birding and Nature Trail, part of the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, offers a 1.1-mile universally accessible loop through diverse habitats.
This trail is designed to accommodate visitors of all abilities, including those using wheelchairs or strollers, and is also suitable for the visually impaired. The path meanders through floodplain forests, grasslands, and wetlands, providing opportunities to observe local wildlife and native plants.
It features many outlook points and benches where you can sit and enjoy moments of contemplation, your morning cup of coffee, or a picnic with your family. Just remember to pick up after yourself.
Located in the Fort River Division of the refuge, the trail is open daily from sunrise to sunset. Visitors can enjoy the natural beauty of the area, which includes a variety of bird species and seasonal wildflowers.
