Why is a Program like Civic Academy important?

Programs like this are important because local government shapes so much of daily life; roads, public safety, parks, development, sustainability, and community services. Yet many residents only see the results, not the processes or people behind them.

The Amherst Civic Academy bridges that gap by:

  • Demystifying decision-making – showing how policies, budgets, and priorities are set.
  • Building relationships – giving residents direct access to Town staff and leaders.
  • Empowering civic engagement – equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to speak up, get involved, and help shape Amherst’s future.
