Amherst downtown parking ban

Downtown Parking Ban in Amherst

The Town of Amherst has declared a downtown parking ban to support continued snow removal following a major winter storm. The ban will be in effect from 11:59 pm on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, through 7:00 am on Thursday, January 29, 2026. Parking is prohibited in the downtown area on designated streets and in most municipal parking lots during this time.

The Amherst Department of Public Works continues to clear snow from side streets, public sidewalks, and downtown areas. Vehicles parked on streets prevent crews from removing snow effectively and may result in snow buildup around parked cars or leftover snow banks. Drivers are encouraged to minimize on-street parking over the next few days to allow crews to complete cleanup safely and efficiently.

During the declared parking ban, limited overnight parking will remain available in specific locations: the lower level of the downtown parking garage, the town portion of the Pray Street Lot, and the northern row of the town North Pleasant Street Lot closest to the church.
