Geology Talk & Walk: Exploring Sunderland’s Deep History

Professor Richard Little will present a program on the geological history of Sunderland on Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. The session covers topics including the formation of Pangea, the Connecticut River, differences between Mt. Toby and Mt. Sugarloaf, and the story of glacial Lake Hitchcock. Attendees will have the opportunity to view Jurassic Armored Mud Balls. The presentation will be followed by a short walk to the “Rock Park” at Town Hall. The event will begin at the Sunderland Public Library at 20 School Street.

Presenter Richard Little is a retired Greenfield Community College geology professor and the discoverer of Jurassic Armored Mud Balls. He is the author of several books on regional geology.
