HistoryMakers Digital Archive Workshop at UMass Amherst

A public workshop on the HistoryMakers Digital Archive will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM in Herter Hall 601 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The session introduces participants to one of the nation’s largest African American video oral history archives and explores how Black history, oral interviews, and digital humanities intersect in archival research. The workshop is led by I’Maya Gibbs, a PhD student in the W.E.B. Du Bois Department and Student Ambassador for the HistoryMakers Digital Archive. The event is open to students, researchers, and community members interested in digital archives and Black digital humanities. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

This program highlights the role of digital tools in preserving and accessing Black historical narratives and is part of ongoing public humanities programming at UMass Amherst focused on archival education and research access.
