Online Author Talk with Dr. Lindsey Stewart

An online author talk featuring Dr. Lindsey Stewart will take place on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 2 PM. The event is hosted by the South Hadley Public Library and will be held virtually. Dr. Stewart will discuss her book The Conjuring of America: Mojos, Mermaids, Medicine, and 400 Years of Black Women’s Magic, which examines the histories and traditions of Black women healers, midwives, and spiritual leaders from slavery through the Jim Crow era. The program is open to the public and will be accessible online.

Dr. Lindsey Stewart is a Black feminist philosopher and an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Memphis. She is also the author of The Politics of Black Joy, and her work has appeared in Blavity, Signs, Hypatia, and the British Journal for the History of Philosophy. She received the Michael Beany Prize in 2021.
