Paradise City POV: Photographs by Jacob Clayton

Local transgender artist Jacob Clayton debuts pieces from his black and white photo series, Paradise City POV. A recent transplant to the Pioneer Valley, this work focuses on the intangible imprint that the glaring public display of acceptance in Northampton, Massachusetts, will have on those navigating a difficult path in life.

On view in the Emerging Artist Showcase at Barn Door Gallery in Northampton. The opening reception is Friday, August 8 from 5 to 8 PM. Artist talk at 7PM.

About Jacob Clayton

As a self-taught visual artist, I use photography, video, and mixed media as means to expand the vocabulary that challenges Euro-hetero-white-centric expectations and cultural representations of gender identity and expression.

My work often chronicles a therapeutic journey through recovery from complex trauma and the road to gather and assemble reclaimed pieces of a life lived for decades as a closeted transgender man in America.

Where is the Barn Door Gallery?

The Barn Door Gallery is the Northampton Center for the Arts’ (NCFA) dedicated art space at 33 Hawley Street in Northampton, MA. Managed by NCFA, it hosts rotating exhibits that foster community connections through the arts, showcasing a wide range of artists and mediums in an accessible, inclusive setting.
