The Emily Dickinson Museum in Amherst will host “Revolution is the Pod”: Emily Dickinson’s American Poetry, an NEH Summer Institute for Teachers, from Sunday, July 19 through Friday, July 24, 2026, or Sunday, July 26 through Friday, July 31, 2026. The application deadline is Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:59 PM ET.
Designed for K–12 educators, the program examines Dickinson’s poetry in the context of 19th-century American rhetoric and national identity, one century after the American Revolution. Participants will explore how Dickinson’s rule-breaking style responded to her historical moment and how her work continues to influence contemporary writers. The institute includes close study of Dickinson’s poetry, creative writing, and engagement with contemporary poets. The program is supported in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
