Puffer’s Pond Swimming Update: Both Beaches Meet Safe Water Standards

Weekly Testing During Swimming Season (Memorial Day – Labor Day)

The latest water quality test results for Puffer’s Pond, released May 27, 2026, show that both South Beach and North Beach meet state standards for safe swimming conditions. The Town of Amherst conducts weekly water quality testing during the swimming season (Memorial Day through Labor Day). Results are typically posted by Wednesday afternoon on the Puffer’s Pond website.

Alerts for High E. coli Levels

If testing reveals any cause for concern, such as high levels of E. coli bacteria, the Town will post signage at Puffer’s Pond and issue alerts on the website and social media. The Amherst Public Health Department makes closure decisions and is the point of contact for questions.

For current results and updates, visit the Puffer’s Pond website. Contact the Public Health Department at publichealth[at]amherstma.gov or 413-259-3077.
