The Amherst Department of Public Works will begin street sweeping on April 1, 2026, continuing through mid-to-late June. Sweeping operations are subject to weather and on-street parking obstacles. Residents should not leave large piles of sand or debris along the road edge, as sweepers cannot pick them up; such material may be brought to the Transfer Station on Route 9 at no charge.
Sweeping order by area:
- Central – West: Amity St, Lincoln Ave, and streets between Massachusetts Ave and Northampton Rd (including Allen, Beston, Blue Hills Rd, Cowls Lane, Elm, Fearing, Gaylord, Kendrick, McClellan, Nutting Ave, Prospect St, Sunset, Butterfield Terrace, Greenleaves).
- Central – East: Chestnut, High, Canton Ave, Churchill, Cottage, Dickinson, East St Common, Gray, Grove, Harvard Ave, Hills Rd, Kellogg Ave, Lessey, Spring, Taylor, Mt. Pleasant, Pleasant Court, Strong St, Triangle, Wildwood Lane, and others.
- South Amherst: Bay Rd, East Hadley Rd, Glendale Rd, Harris Mt., Middle St, Mill Lane, Pomeroy Lane, Shays St, South Pleasant St, Stagecoach Rd, West Bay Rd, and more.
- East Side Route: Echo Hill, Amherst Woods, Route 9 to Belchertown line, Pelham Rd, Old Belchertown Rd, Station Rd, Stanley Street, Valley View Circle, South East Street.
- North Amherst: North Pleasant St (north of UMass), East Pleasant St (north of Strong St), Cowls Rd, East Leverett Rd, Henry St, Leverett Rd, Meadow St, Old Montague Rd, Pine St, Pulpit Hill Rd, Sunderland Rd, Shutesbury Rd, and others.
