A free public talk, “How Tech is Supercharging ICE,” will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. UMass faculty Francine Berman and Laura Haas will discuss the use of facial recognition, AI, and data analysis by ICE and explore potential ways to contain these technologies. The session includes a short presentation followed by discussion and Q&A. The event is sponsored by the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences and the Public Interest Technology Initiative.

Francine Berman is Director of Public Interest Technology and a 2024 Pioneer in Tech award recipient. Laura Haas is a professor and former dean of the Manning College, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
