A free lecture on 19th-century folk artist Erastus Salisbury Field will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Presented by Amherst Historical Society board member Neal Parks, the talk will survey Field’s artistic career, from his early training in New York City to his work as an itinerant portraitist and later biblical and dream-like paintings. Field was born in Leverett and is buried in North Amherst. Following the talk, attendees can view Field’s portraits of Rev. William Hunt and his wife at the Amherst History Center.
