A free lecture celebrating Frederick Law Olmsted’s 204th birthday weekend will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Author Mark Roessler will discuss Olmsted’s work in Amherst, share a video tour of Olmsted’s home and office in Brookline (Fairsted), and explore how Olmsted’s vision for public parks aimed to heal a fractured democracy. Roessler’s book, Fairsted, Reflections on how Olmsted helped heal a fractured democracy, was published by Levellers Press. The talk will take place at the Bangs Community Center, 70 Boltwood Walk.
The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Bangs Center at 413-259-3060.
