Indoor Cooling Centers, Outdoor Pools & Spray Pad – Stay Safe in Extreme Heat
The Town of Amherst offers multiple cooling centers and outdoor facilities to help residents stay safe during extreme heat. Cooling centers are available at:
- Bangs Community Center (70 Boltwood Walk): Mon-Fri 8 AM-4 PM
- Jones Library (101 University Drive): Mon-Sat varying hours (closed Sun)
- Munson Memorial Library (1046 S East St): Mon-Thu, Sat (closed Fri)
- North Amherst Library (8 Montague Road): Varying hours
- Town Hall (4 Boltwood Ave): Mon-Fri 8 AM-4:30 PM
- Amherst Police Department (111 Main St): 24/7 lobby access
Outdoor Facilities – Spray Pad, Pools & Puffer’s Pond
- Groff Park Spray Pad: Free, daily 10 AM-8 PM (Tuesdays open 12 PM)
- Mill River Pool & War Memorial Pool: Lap and open swim hours available; daily passes/memberships required.
- Puffer’s Pond: Open sunrise to sunset; no lifeguard. Check weekly water quality results.
