Amherst’s coffee scene has it all, from small, local roasts and cozy atmosphere to steady Wi-Fi and plenty of seating. 1. Amherst Coffee + Bar, 28 Amity St.
Amherst Coffee has the best coffee this side of Massachusetts. If you think you serve up a better cup, let us know, and we’ll come check it out.
It’s a downtown standby for classic espresso drinks and fine pastries. At 4 pm from Tuesday to Saturday, the coffee service ends, and the bar opens until midnight.
The café has no wifi, but that doesn’t stop the laptop brigade, us included, from hanging out and getting work done.
Seating is perfect, with a mix of two and four-person high tables with bar stools and booths at the other end of the coffee shop, offering more privacy for those classified conversations you cannot risk sending over Telegram.
Sit by yourself and send some emails or socialize with friends.
Google Reviews highlight: Friendly staff, great late-night hours, and always great espresso.
2. Share Coffee, 178 North Pleasant St.
Share Coffee is another downtown haven for coffee lovers. They also have the best matcha lattes in Amherst – and the most consistently clean bathrooms we’ve seen in Western MA.
They serve up amazing sandwiches from their kitchen, and their pastry selection is decent. Come early, though, because after lunch it’s slim pickings from the pastry basket.
Seating is close, so no top secret convos here, but it’s a great space to catch up with friends, and the Wi-Fi is great!
Insider tip: Share Coffee is run by the same people who run Lady Killgrew out at the famous Montague Book Mill.
When the colleges in the area are open, their opening hours change from 7am – 6pm to 7am – 10pm (Except Mondays & Tuesdays).
