MassDOT Approves Decrease from 40 MPH to 35 MPH
Following a traffic study, the Town of Amherst requested that MassDOT change the speed limit on Northampton Road between University Drive and South Pleasant Street. MassDOT has accepted the request and installed new signage reflecting a speed limit of 35 MPH, a decrease from the previous 40 MPH zone. The goal is to increase safety on this roadway.
Study Included Speed Analysis, Geometry Review & Accident History
The MassDOT District Traffic Section completed a speed zoning study for the approximately 0.7-mile section of Route 9, including spot speeds, trial runs, roadway geometry and sight distance review, and accident history analysis.
