The Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum will host an opening reception for its new exhibit, “Forty Acres and the American Revolution: Stories of Independence and Servitude,” on Friday, May 1, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Frost Library, 61 Quadrangle Drive, Amherst. The exhibit, on view through June, uses 18th-century objects and scholarship to explore the experiences of enslaved and indentured individuals, including Peg Bowen and Sezor Phelps, during the Revolutionary era. The exhibit is funded by the NEH, IMLS, MassHumanities, and other organizations.
The reception is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum.
