The Black Studies and English departments will host a screening of the film Xalé: The Wounds of Childhood on Friday, March 27, 2026, at 4:30 PM in Pruyne Lecture Hall (Fayerweather 115). The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Moussa Sene Absa. The 2022 film, part of Absa’s trilogy, addresses the challenges and resilience of women in African society and won multiple Africa Movie Academy Awards, including Best Film and Best Director. It was Senegal’s submission for the 95th Academy Awards. The event is free and open to the public.

Moussa Sene Absa is an award-winning Francophone African filmmaker and visual artist, known for films including Tableau Ferraille (1995) and Madame Brouette (2002).
