The History of Crazy Quilts at Sunderland Public Library

Lauren D. Whitley, Curator of Historic Textiles and Clothing at Historic Deerfield, will present a slideshow on the history of Crazy Quilts on Monday, November 10, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Sunderland Public Library, 20 School Street, Sunderland, MA.

Crazy Quilting is a textile art form that began in the 1800s and is known for its patchwork seams, exotic fabrics, and decorative embellishments. The presentation will explore how crazy quilts have influenced the history of art and sewing and how modern quiltmakers continue the tradition today.

Lauren D. Whitley oversees a collection of 8,000 objects at Historic Deerfield and previously served as Senior Curator in the Department of Textile and Fashion Arts at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
