Belchertown Animal Inspector Sharon Kahl-Oey reminds all owners of farm animals—including chickens, goats, horses, cows, pigs, sheep, and other livestock—that 2025 annual inspections must be completed by April 1, 2026. Inspections are required by state law and take 10-30 minutes at no cost. They ensure animals are accounted for in emergencies and that owners are notified in the event of a disease outbreak. Backyard chicken owners are also required to be on the list.
