1.5-Mile Loop Through Diverse Habitat in Shutesbury
Join Sam McGullam and Josh Rose on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM to explore Bright Water Bog in Shutesbury. The 1.5-mile loop trail passes through meadow, mountain laurel thicket, forest, pond, and peat bog. Possible bird sightings include Canada Warbler, Alder Flycatcher, Veery, and Black-throated Blue Warbler. Participants will also look for carnivorous plants, butterflies, dragonflies, and the sculptures and poetry along the trail.
Carpool & Meeting Location – Limited to 10 Participants
The group will meet at 8:00 AM at the Leverett Village Co-op (180 Rattlesnake Gutter Road, Leverett) to carpool to the trailhead (8 minutes away). Restrooms are available at the co-op. The trail is mostly level with boardwalks but includes short steep sections, narrow areas, rocks, roots, and mud. Bring water, snacks, sun protection, insect repellent, tick protection, waterproof footwear, and weather-appropriate clothing. Limited cell phone reception. Limited to 10 participants.
