Dye Your Own Washington Standard Flag at Clapp Library

Natural Indigo Dye Workshop – Limited to 18 Participants

On Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, local fiber artist Holly Field will lead a hands-on workshop at the Clapp Memorial Library, 19 South Main Street, Belchertown. Participants will dye their own replica of George Washington’s headquarters flag, the “Washington Standard,” using a natural indigo dye bath. The cotton fabric is pre-treated so the dye won’t stick to the star area, creating the pattern “as if by magic.”

Ages 10 to Adult – Outdoor Workshop on Library Lawn

The activity is limited to 18 participants ages 10 to adult (children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult). The workshop will take place on the front lawn; please dress appropriately for a messy dyeing process. The program is funded by the Belchertown Cultural Council and Mass Cultural Council.
