Local authors Tom Weiner and Amilcar Shabazz will discuss their new book, “In Defiance: 20 Abolitionists You Were Never Taught in School,” on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. The talk is part of the History Bites Lunchtime Lecture Series at the Bangs Community Center (70 Boltwood Walk, Amherst).
The book profiles 20 Black and white abolitionists, highlighting their activism against enslavement. Weiner is a writer and educator, and Shabazz is a professor and former president of the National Council for Black Studies.
